Giovanni & Jasmine Tommaso Quintet
Giovanni Tommaso turned 80 this year. He wrote an autobiography to tell his story and the last sixty years of music in Italy to mark the occasion. Giovanni is one of the high-profile representatives of that generation that played a decisive role in setting the basic features of Italian jazz. The career of the Italian bassist from Lucca began in the late ‘50s with the Quintetto di Lucca and the winning of the Coppa del jazz della Rai. Countless adventures in his career: from the orchestras of the cruise ships to the TV studios, from the New York clubs to his works as producer and arranger for RCA, from pop singers to film music.
Giovanni Tommaso’s new project has a different value, both artistically and especially for its emotional content. Giovanni did this project on songs with a particular singer, her daughter Jasmine. The recent album, “As Time Goes By”, is the famous song by “Casablanca”. It also reflects time going by and bridging past and future and their respective generations.
Jasmine recorded this album after excellent masterclasses and her experience on the Californian music scene, where she has earned a good reputation.
