Ryo Miyachi is a young bass player, composer and band leader who won the Sapporo Park Jazz Live Contest last summer. Born and raised in Okayama, he then moved to Brooklyn.

Miyachi started playing electric bass at 17 and two years later he was already a professional musician in the circle of Japanese jazz.

After his first experiences with accredited musicians from his own country, in New York he directed the World music band “Slum Suit” which in the summer of 2017 was invited to share the stage with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Meanwhile, he released his first record as leader, “November”. With the name “Ryo Miyachi NY Collective” he toured Japan in May 2018 and, shortly thereafter, won the prestigious Sapporo competition with his quintet.
