Francesco Bearzatti Tinissima Quartet

In February 2009, an overflowing fomenter of the Italian and European jazz scene, Francesco Bearzatti released the album “Suite for Tina Modotti”, dedicated to the great photographer, on Parco della Musica Records. Tinissima Quartet is the band name. Together with Bearzatti’s saxophone, Giovanni Falzone on trumpet, and Danilo Gallo and Zeno De Rossi on the rhythm section: this is the unusual “pianoless” formula, with sax, trumpet, double bass, and drums. The band recalls the Ornette Coleman quartet at the end of the ‘50s. The record was one of the most interesting works that year, and Bearzatti won the 2009 Top Jazz Poll by Musica Jazz as “instrumentalist of the year (reed section)”. Bearzatti released “X (suite for Malcolm)” in 2010 with the same band. It won “Album of the Year” of the 2010 Top Jazz and “Best Album” in Italy by Jazzit Award. He released “Monk’n’Roll” in 2013 and “This Machine Kills Fascists” in 2015, a tribute to Woody Guthrie and the slogan written on his guitar. The quartet’s latest release was in October 2020 with the album “Zorro”, on the 100th anniversary of the creation of the fictional character. It is a stunning suite featuring great themes: cinema, romantic interludes, vast landscapes, and thrilling chases. In other words, Zorro. “A narrator who is in love with the words and capable of incredible innovations. Everywhere a foreigner and yet profoundly Italian. A musician in his eternal search for creating more. He is always irresistibly attracted to revolutionary processes as long as they’re free and changing and adaptable”. The perfect description of Bearzatti.
