PAOLO FRESU DEVIL QUARTET PAOLO FRESU DEVIL QUARTET special guest FRANCESCO DIODATI PAOLO FRESU DEVIL QUARTET special guest GIANLUCA PETRELLA PAOLO FRESU TRIO "TEMPO DI CHET", special guest STEFANO BAGNOLI Paolo Fresu times four, at Umbria Jazz Winter, for what could be called carte blanche in the hands of one of the leaders of the Italian jazz movement - and not only that. Three performances feature the Devil Quartet as protagonist: one with the usual formation; the second in an "electric" version, with Francesco Diodati on guitar; the third in "acoustic" mode with special guest Gianluca Petrella on trombone. The Devil Quartet was conceived by Fresu to develop the idea of quartet in a different way to that realised in the Angel Quartet, a formation celebrated at European level. The Devil line up, with Bebo Ferra on guitar, Paolino Della Porta on double bass and Stefano Bagnoli on drums, brings together authentic specialists of these instruments but the final result, as always happens in well-played jazz, is greater than the sum of the singles. The skillful direction of Fresu governs a music that he himself defines as "melangé", the result of hybridisations of different styles and languages, open and curious. The two guests, who are inserted into a solidly structured context, obviously change the "sound" of the Devil and represent a strong element of interest. In Fresu's fourth performance, the trio with Dino Rubino on piano and Marco Bardoscia on double bass for the project "Tempo di Chet" goes on stage. Here, too, is a special guest, Stefano Bagnoli on drums. Tempo di Chet, dedicated naturally to one of the most poignant human beings, as well as one of the purest jazz talents, Chet Baker, is also a good record for Tŭk Music and a theatrical work. To remind us that it is always tempo di Chet (Chet time).
