“Dear Dexter” Sextet

“Dear Dexter” is an obvious homage to Dexter Gordon, an icon of tenor sax and bebop, and clearly explains the band’s musical identity. Two musicians (Odorici and Zunino) come from Italy, two from the USA (Magnarelli and Davis) and two from Austria (Kent and Reiter): they are all experienced musicians with a long career behind them.

The sextet is a band that can recreate live the atmosphere of the clubs. Piero Odorici is one of the Italian jazzmen with a strong international projection. He has performed with renowned musicians such as Cedar Walton, George Cables, Eumir Deodato, and Curtis Fuller. The audience at Umbria Jazz knows him very well as he is a member of the resident band of the midnight clubs.

Magnarelli has performed in the Lionel Hampton’s orchestra, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, and Brother Jack McDuff’s band. David has played in Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and Chick Corea’s Origin. Kent and Reiter are renowned musicians of the European and Austrian jazz scene. Both have collaborated with important names and have intense activity as leaders. Zunino has played with Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu, Dado Moroni, Benny Golson, and Tommy Flanagan.
