Dado Moroni played piano in a recent tribute to Bill Evans called Kind of Bill, featuring two of Evans’ partners (Pat La Barbera and Eddie Gomez). Moroni returns to Umbria Jazz with a solo performance. Moroni is one of the most appreciated and sought-after Italian players and undoubtedly one of the most international ones.
Moroni wanted to have an important artistic experience and decided to move to the USA, where the great jazzmen recognized his talent and the historic clubs of New York opened their doors to him. In an album dedicated to pianists (“Some of my best friends are… the piano players”), Ray Brown met five great soloists, including Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, and Dado Moroni, the only non-American among them.
He entered the world of jazz music as a child prodigy. Moroni built a career marked by many outstanding collaborations: Ron Carter, Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, and Tom Harrell, with whom he recorded two brilliant albums, “Humanity” in duo and “The Cube” with an ambitious quintet.
Over the last years, at Umbria Jazz, he has performed with Alvin Queen and Harrell, in trio with Karima, in a unique project dedicated to Monk with five pianists, in duo with guitarist Luigi Tessarollo, with Kenny Barron, Rita Marcotulli, Max Ionata, in trio with Eddie Gomez and Peter Erskine, and with another trio featuring Rosario Bonaccorso and Roberto Gatto.
