Giovanni Mirabassi & Rosario Giuliani “Live and Kicking”

“Live & Kicking” by Giovanni Mirabassi and Rosario Giuliani was released last November. The album was recorded in a famous studio in Paris. Mirabassi and Giuliani are very popular in France, where they have pursued most of their artistic activities, especially Mirabassi. The piano/sax duo leads the audience to a more intimate dimension and combines two different yet perfectly compatible sensibilities. With melancholy as a common thread, through original compositions by both of them (which are a tribute to the Italian roots and the great American jazz music), Mirabassi and Giuliani write an essential chapter of their long artistic path, which already includes some of the best works of the Italian and European jazz music.

Giuliani has long recorded for Dreyfus Records until the death of Francis Dreyfus. He is greatly respected in the jazz world, as shown by the first important steps of his career: he won the Premio “Massimo Urbani” in 1996 and the Europe Jazz Contest in Belgium as best solo artist and best group in 1997. Giuliani won the Top Jazz Award in 2000 as best new talent. He performs at the most important festivals in the world, where he is considered one of the leading representatives of Italian jazz.

Mirabassi grew up in music by listening to Bach, but later – thanks to the concerts of Umbria Jazz – he discovered a passion for jazz music. As a teenager, he performed with Chet Baker and Steve Grossman. He then moved to Paris and obtained many recognitions in France, such as the Django D’Or award after his first solo album, “Avanti!”, a collection of songs about revolutions.
