Mathis Picard, deserves a role of excellence among the most original musicians of the latest years: a New Yorker by adoption, he is a 30-year-old French-Malagasy pianist, composer, producer, and bandleader.
Rooted in the tradition of live acoustic performance – with an eye to the stride piano style – Picard is at ease with the latest technologies applied to music and the most modern trends, which led him to create his musical style by combining the different influences. Mathis is currently leading the Mathis Sound Orchestra (“Globe Unity” is recommended), the solo performance (“Live At The Museum”), and his trio project (“The Royal Room” came out last year).
Besides his activity as a leader, Picard shared the stage with artists such as Ron Carter, Lee Ritenour, Jason Moran, Wynton Marsalis, and Mwenso & The Shakes.
