The quintet formed in 2008 between Cremona and Piacenza. The band is dedicated to revisiting rock and pop classics with a retro style recalling jazz manouche, the swing era, and early rock & roll with virtuosic vocal and instrumental arrangements, so much so that their version of “Bohemian Rhapsody” was publicly acclaimed by Queen guitarist Brian May.
Sugarpie & The Candymen have also composed original songs and, over the last 15 years, have released six albums and performed at the most prestigious European festivals (Umbria Jazz, Montreux Jazz Festival, Madrid Jazz Festival) and on many other stages, from Berlin to Dubai, from Paris to New Orleans. They debuted at Umbria Jazz in 2015. Since then, they have been a regular attraction at the Festival. In 2017, they participated in two tracks of Renzo Arbore’s triple album “Arbore Plus”.
Their original and eclectic music is well documented in their latest album, “Something’s Cookin’” (Irma Records), where they recall soul and electric blues with their compositions.
