Marco Mezquida

Marco Mezquida is considered a new star of the piano. The 36-year-old eclectic artist from Minorca (Spain) makes a confident synthesis of the most varied influences (Keith Jarrett, Schubert, Bill Evans, Rachmaninov, Paul Bley). Ravel, Handel, Chopin, and popular Latin American music are further pieces of his inspiration. As a Spanish, he adds an inevitable aftertaste of flamenco to his music. As a pianist, improviser, accompanist and bandleader, he has built a personal identity and “sound”. One of his most successful projects of recent years is the Chicuelo & Marco Mezquida trio, which blends jazz with flamenco. He has collaborated with significant artists such as Lee Konitz, Michel Camilo and Bill McHenry.
