The opening night of the Festival features an all-Italian project entitled “Le rondini e la nina” (the Swallows and the Moon), which explores the encounter of jazz and popular Italian song. From the world of jazz are Paolo Fresu and saxophonist Raffaele Casarano, who has recently recorded for Fresu’s Tuk Records, while from the world of popular music are Gaetano Curreri, singer and leader of the group Stadio, and Fabrizio Foschini, who has performed with Stadio on keyboards. Together the quartet will be performing the songs of two of Italy’s most popular contemporary songwriters, Lucio Dalla and Fabrizio de André, both of whom loved and also played jazz.
