Bobby Broom Organi – Sation
It doesn’t happen to everyone to be invited by Sonny Rollins to go on tour with his band. But Bobby Broom was just a boy at the time, even though he had already played with illustrious professionals like Al Haig, and he preferred to finish his higher education. The invitation was repeated by the Saxophone Colossus a few years later, when Broom was already a successful musician, and this time of course the Harlem guitarist accepted. He spent a lot of time with Rollins, taking part in his tours and three records. Other important collaborations have been with Miles Davis, Dave Grusin, Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, Kenny Burrell (one of his inspirers, together with Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Grant Green), Dr. John. His most recent band is a guitar-organ-drums trio entitled
Organi-sation, a formula that Broom manages with great skill, as demonstrated by a previous similar trio, the Deep Blue Organ Trio. Soul Fingers is his most recent album with Organi-sation.
