Daniele Di Bonaventura and Giovanni Ceccarelli
“EU TE AMO” the music of Tom Jobim
DANIELE DI BONAVENTURA and GIOVANNI CECCARELLI
special guest JAQUES MORELENBAUM
Eu Te Amo is the title of a beautiful song by Tom Jobim on a text by Chico Buarque. It is also the title of the most recent album, dedicated to the music of Jobim, of Daniele di Bonaventura and Giovanni Ceccarelli. The album features excellent guests including the extraordinary cellist Jaques Morelenbaum who, among his many important collaborations (including with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Sting), also boasts a stable artistic partnership with Jobim in the final phase of the great Brazilian musician’s career.
And it is this trio that Umbria Jazz hosts in the 2019 edition, in an ideal representation of the Carioca sounds that have never been lacking in the recent summer editions of Umbria Jazz.
The bandoneon/piano duo formed by di Bonaventura and Ceccarelli began in 2013 and, two years later, produced the album Mare Calmo. Now their partnership contends with Brazilian songwriting and one of its greatest composers, indeed with one of the most brilliant songwriters of the twentieth century. “The more I play these pieces – says di Bonaventura – the more I realise that it is almost like playing classical music, Schumann, Schubert, Ravel”. A love shared by Ceccarelli: “Jobim is a passion that dates back at least to the time I became passionate about jazz, I’ve been listening to it since I was 15”.
The ideal partner to play this music is Morelenbaum, an authentic star of Brazilian music with over six hundred records and collaborations behind him besides Jobim, with Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethania, Chico Buarque, Milton Nascimento. Composer, arranger, conductor, he is one of the most well known and respected musicians in the world.
