Doctor 3 – 25 anni
Twenty-five years ago (December 1997), a newly formed trio of Italian jazz stars – Danilo Rea on piano, Enzo Pietropaoli on double bass, and Fabrizio Sferra on drums – recorded “The Tales of Doctor 3”. The album was nominated for Best Italian Record in 1998 by Musica Jazz. Since then, the trio, Doctor 3, has repeatedly won the magazine’s poll as Best Italian Jazz Group. Among the reason for the success, besides the quality of the band, which is the result of their natural empathy, there is undoubtedly the choice of the repertoire, drawing from the Italian songwriting, the most beloved standards by jazzmen, the American and British rock hits, original themes and improvisations. Doctor 3 can transform a quite diverse choice into a homogeneous flow of musicality and emotions.
During these twenty-five years, Rea, Pietropaoli, and Sferra have kept following their paths, but Doctor 3, despite some natural break, is still an essential part of their careers. On the 25th anniversary of the trio, they have decided to celebrate an artistic experience that represented a lot in Italian jazz and never lost the public’s attention over the years.
