ERJ ORCHESTRA – “Cedar’s Blues”
First of all, the name: ERJ ORCHESTRA stands for Emilia Romagna Jazz Orchestra, and it is formed by the best jazz player of its region (one of the Italian territories that can boast a very solid jazz tradition), plus some notable young artists. Trombonist and arranger Roberto Rossi is the conductor; saxophonist Piero Odorici is the artistic director. They are two important musicians of the Italian scene. Rossi was a member of different symphony orchestras (Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, Orchestra della RAI, Orchestra del Rossini Opera Festival, Orchestra Regionale Toscana) and boasts a relevant jazz activity, as well as in education. Odorici is a privileged point of contact between Italian and American jazz and collaborated with famous musicians such as Cedar Walton, George Cables, Eumir Deodato, Curtis Fuller. The audience of Umbria Jazz knows him very well, since he performed many times with the resident band at the midnight concerts.
