Nothing like Funk Off performing on the streets of Orvieto and the cheerful audience tastes like newfound normality. Anyone who has been at any summer, winter, or spring edition of Umbria Jazz from 2003 has come home with a music postcard of the Festival thanks to Funk Off.
There is no point in introducing them. The street band from Tuscany has become very popular with an original and recognizable formula: overcome the concept of the traditional marching band from New Orleans (that is how jazz was born) and perform enthralling, spectacular, modern, and engaging music.
Funk Off’s DNA includes entertainment and a solid musical culture transcending genres. Besides the jazz of the origins, their music reminds of James Brown’s R&B, Frank Zappa’s acidic polyphony of wind instruments, George Clinton’s pure funk, and the latest hip-hop trends.
