“HARP vs HARP” Edmar Castaneda, Grégoire Maret
The miracles of jazz. Only this music genre can bring together Swiss harmonica virtuoso Grégoire Maret and Colombian harpist Edmar Castaneda. It is hard to imagine an odder combination but more fascinating at the same time. It should not work, according to Billboard, but it does!
The two first met at a festival with Marcus Miller, then Castaneda invited Maret to play with him in Bogotá and its surroundings. From their instant connection (maybe because they were both born among the mountains), they recorded “Harp vs. Harp”, released on German label ACT, and toured together.
Castaneda and Maret are well placed in the music business despite their uncommon instruments on the jazz scene. Castaneda performed with John Scofield, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Marcus Miller, John Patitucci, Hamilton de Holanda, Ivan Lins, Béla Fleck. He has played several times at Umbria Jazz, both in summer and winter.
Here are Maret’s excellent collaborations: Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Cassandra Wilson, Marcus Miller, Prince, Sting, Elton John, Dianne Reeves, Kurt Elling, Youssn’Dour, Pete Seeger, David Sanborn, George Benson.
