Jim Rotondi & Piero Odorici Quintet
This is one of the most classic jazz lineups: the quintet with trumpet and sax on the front line and the rhythm section (piano, double bass, drums).
This quintet is led by Montana trumpeter Jim Rotondi and Bolognese saxophone player Piero Odorici. They have been playing together for a long time.
Rotondi has been among the most demanded trumpeters of the New York jazz scene for 25 years. He is now living in Graz and working as a teacher. The media greatly appreciates him. The New Yorker wrote: “Rotondi has the passion and focus to find a place for the music in the new millennium”.
Odorici is a privileged point of connection between Italian and American jazz. He has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Cedar Walton, George Cables, Eumir Deodato and Curtis Fuller. The Umbria Jazz audience knows him very well since he has repeatedly played in the resident band of the midnight club.
The rhythm section includes Joe Farnsworth on drums, Rotondi’s long-time collaborator, Paolo Birro on piano and Aldo Zunino on double bass, both members of the House Quintet of Umbria Jazz.
