It may happen to be born in the wrong place, but what matters is finding the place of the heart to live. Jon Cleary, a British-born musician raised in the countryside of Kent, is now one of the most acclaimed interpreters of New Orleans, the city where he has been living for decades. The first piercing approach to the varied music scene of the Crescent City happened with records he had at home. He was impressed by the overflowing personality of singer-pianist-producer-songwriter Allen Toussaint. He was such an inspiration for Jon, who made his first trip (or, more accurately, pilgrimage) to New Orleans. He took a cab straight from the airport to the Maple Leaf Bar, one of the iconic venues of the music history of New Orleans. Once settled in the city, Jon became a professional musician and nowadays is one of the best representatives (he also won a Grammy Award) of the genres defining New Orleans’ music identity, from the traditional to the most modern ones: jazz, blues, rag, stride, gospel, funk, soul. He has also collaborated with important artists such as Dr. John, Bonnie Raitt, John Scofield, Taj Mahal.
With his voice-piano formula, Cleary comes to Orvieto as an elegant, cultured and entertaining performer.
