Marcella Carboni Trio “This is not a Harp”
If you think about the harp, jazz is not the first music genre that comes to mind. This wonderful instrument’s delicate and crystal-clear sound makes you think of the classical orchestra or, in its different versions, traditional or ethnic music.
Marcella Carboni proves that there is a jazz soul in the harp. All you need is the desire to explore its sound, dynamics, versatility, and expressive power. The result can be surprising. By presenting the album of this trio, “This Is Not A Harp”, Carboni says: “This is not a harp. It is certainly not an angelic, magical, and relaxing harp of the popular imagination. This is not a harp: this is my voice, my sound. This instrument can scratch, have rhythm and groove. It’s alienating but also soft and with a round sound”. Marcella created other projects with this instrument, the solo, the duo with Max Aloe, and the orchestra. The trio with Dalla Porta and Bagnoli, two important and longtime figures of Italian jazz, has a peculiar value. They are two creative and open-minded jazzmen who are perfect for such an unconventional trio.
