LYDIAN SOUND ORCHESTRA – Riccardo Brazzale, conduction

The Lydian Sound Orchestra won the 2016 critics’ poll organized by Italian jazz magazine Musica Jazz for Best Italian Formation. The award, won in 2018 and 2019, came after a long path started in 1989, when saxophonist, composer, arranger, and bandleader Riccardo Brazzale created the orchestra modelled after an atypical tentet (such as Miles Davis’s “Tuba Band”, Monk’s Town Hall Orchestra or Charles Mingus band in “The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady”). Gil Evans and George Russel were one of those who inspired the orchestra.
