Thornetta Davis

From Detroit comes Thornetta Davis, who is considered the undisputed blues queen of the Motor City, winner of about thirty Detroit Music Awards in the blues and rhythm ‘n’ blues  categories. The Detroit metropolitan area is one of the American capitals of blues and r&b. Its theatres and clubs have hosted the greatest performers of this music, from Ma Rainey to Bessie Smith; here John Lee Hooker established himself in the 40s; in Detroit was born Motown Records and the soul genre launched by this label. Davis is heir to all this heritage and at the same time, also as a songwriter, helps to revitalise it. During her career she has opened for Bonnie Raitt, Gladys Knight, Etta James, and has sung with Kid Rock and Bob Seger. One of her songs was included in the soundtrack of the series The Sopranos.
