“Dear Dexter” Quintet
with Piero Odorici, Daniele Scannapieco, Paolo Birro
Aldo Zunino, Xaver Hellmeier
Over the last editions of Umbria Jazz in Perugia and Orvieto, they have been the “house band” of the Festival. It’s a sold quintet that usually plays at night as the beating heart of the jam sessions. They are experienced jazzmen, among the top players of their instruments. This band can recreate live the vibrant atmosphere of the club, which is the historical venue of jazz music and still is the favorite of the most orthodox fans.
“Dear Dexter” is an obvious homage to Dexter Gordon, an icon of tenor sax and bebop, and clearly explains the Quintet’s musical identity. This is also a way to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Dex, born on February 27, 1923, in Los Angeles.
