Iceland is the land of ice and fire but also one of the capitals of music – not only rock music. From Reykjavík, Laufey – singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist – brings innovation to the international music business. The Grammy Award she just won testified to her reputation. According to Elle, “there’s a little bit of magic in every Laufey song”, and Billboard said she is “one of the biggest jazz stars of the streaming era”.

Laufey has a solid music education behind her – also because her mother and twin sister are classical violinists – and she performed as a cello soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra at age 15. Then she directed her talent into the music of her time, participated in a talent show, studied at Berklee, lived in Washington, and moved to Los Angeles. Laufey’s debut was in 2020 with her single “Street by Street”, followed by two studio albums, one live album, plus a fistful of singles and EPs. Meanwhile, she performed at the London Jazz Festival, appeared on BBC programs and US TV shows, was nominated for a Grammy Award, and toured worldwide. “From the Start”, one of her most beautiful songs, has a streaming success. If, on the one hand, her music – as a singer and songwriter – is influenced by her classical music education, on the other, the finest jazz and pop music open the doors to the international stages for her. Laufey shows an early talent yet a complete artistic maturity. Her latest album “Bewitched” – which won a Grammy Award – raises the bar.
