Vanessa Tagliabue Yorke “We Like It Hot”
w/ Francesco Bearzatti, Mauro Ottolini, Giulio Scaramella
Over the last few years, Vanessa Tagliabue Yorke has performed multiple times at Umbria Jazz, but this is her debut as the leader of her project. It’s the opportunity to highlight her sophisticated and engaging vocality, creativity, and profound musical culture. Vanessa, for instance, is a passionate lover of early jazz, and “We Like It Hot” recalls the Roaring Twenties. Here is how Vanessa describes the project: “We like it hot. This work comes from the intention of exploring the language and content of music that was played in New York in the second half of 20s thanks to orchestras like that of Paul Whiteman, Jean Goldkette, and to those specially formed for accompanying Annette Hanshaw. That voice was different from all the other Flappers’ nasal voices on the radio and charmed all America. Musicians soon called her “The Personality Girl”. Annette had a warm and soft vocal timbre with a great attitude to swing”.
Vanessa is the ideal artist to revive that era. Not to mention that her creativity is also expressed in different and unconventional directions. A great small band will perform with her in “We Like It Hot”: Mauro Ottolini, Francesco Bearzatti and Giulio Scaramella.
