DJAVAN – D Tour, Europa 2024

Djavan is one of the most beloved Brazilian artists. He is also responsible for bringing together multiple cultures (Northeastern Brazilian music, pop, rock, funk, African tradition) and contributed to opening the doors of the global music market to MPB. He was honored with a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015. When young, Caetano Viana was an outstanding football player. Following her mother’s passion for music – his first teacher and muse – he chose a different path over his football career. He listened to many music genres, thanks also to a schoolmate whose father owned a sophisticated quadrophonic sound system and a record collection ranging from jazz to Bach and traditional Brazilian music. Djavan started singing, playing guitar (he learned to play it as a self-taught player), and writing songs. He also started a band to play songs from The Beatles and other rock hits. The decisive step was when he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where Djavan came into contact with the world of music and soon became one of the protagonists. His debut album (1976), “A Voz, o Violão, a Música de Djavan”, is generally considered a samba album but different from the others.

An extraordinary career started, filled with outstanding achievements, spectacular shows worldwide, and songs sung by artists such as Al Jarreau, Manhattan Transfer, Carmen McRae, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia and Eliane Elias.

Since 2004, Djavan has started producing his albums for his own label, Luanda Records.
